The Erieview Cemetery proposal is one that aims to reactivate the cemetery and its surrounding urban context through the creation of an organized framework that will develop over time through various levels of phasing. Within this framework the boundary of the cemetery will be redefined by utilizing a series of smaller scale temporal interventions that will modify the landscape.
These modifications will be executed by allocating specific qualities inherent in the cemetery and its surrounding urban field. By redistributing traits that would otherwise be confined or rejected by the boundaries of the cemetery, a series of hybrid condition will be created that could pair varied/ unconventional programmatic typologies in close proximity. The resultant of these hybrid conditions will be areas of potential that do not have a designated course of evolution and are free to develop in response to the conditions present within their proximity as additional levels of phasing occur.
While these hybrid zones are free to morph depending on their proximity conditions, they will still adhere to an overall ruling logic of the site that will govern the framework as it continues to mature through the phasing process.
